FULL TRUCKLOAD
Why choose truckload or full truckload shipping?
When you need to ship a trailer load of overweight or oversized freight (i.e., >15,000 lbs.), truckload shipping is the way to go. Since full truckload shipping is the most common type of transport, it can be difficult to secure capacity at competitive rates. You will be able to find the right carrier for every load through Windsor Transport Solutions' extensive carrier network.
We work closely with top-rated and qualified carriers to secure capacity with the safest and most reliable trucking companies in the industry. In addition, we move your freight anywhere in North America with Next Day Shipping, and Expedited freight. Some of the benefits include:
-
Cost-effective: If your freight can fill an entire trailer, you save money by not using multiple less-than-truckload (LTL) vehicles.
-
Fast delivery: Your cargo is shipped directly to your customer as opposed to making numerous stops to unload other customers' shipments with LTL vehicles.
-
Low risk of damage: When you ship your freight using truckload, there's little to no handling of your goods during transport.
What types of truckload shipping equipment do you offer?
Dry Van Shipping
Dry van trailers, or box trucks, are the most common type of semi-trucks you see on the road. They are enclosed to protect your cargo from the elements and have doors on the back for unloading goods onto a loading dock. Dry van trucks are not temperature controlled, so they are best suited for non-perishable items.
Flatbed Shipping
Flatbed trucks are designed with a solid bed to easily load and unload heavy, oversized freight because they don't have a roof or sides. They are not enclosed, so flatbed trucks are best used for cargo that can be exposed to the elements and may require a crane or forklift to load goods.
Specialized Shipping
Freight shipments that require specialized truckload shipping need additional protection while being transported and may fall into the following categories:
-
Military freight requiring special protocols
-
Fragile (i.e., computer, lab or medical equipment)
-
Hazardous materials
-
Furniture and fragile fixtures
-
Oversized and bulky cargo (i.e., trade show exhibits, machinery)
Intermodal Shipping
Intermodal shipping makes it easy for customers to ship goods from coast to coast using North America's vast networks of railways, waterways and highways. This method transports freight in intermodal containers using multiple modes of transportation (e.g., rail, ship, and truck), and typically means your cargo is never handled when changing modes. Intermodal shipping also requires less fuel than truckload shipping, which can save you money on long distance shipments, while keeping the environment greener. Multiple contracts are used for each carrier along the route, giving you the flexibility to choose the best carrier based on price or service.
Multimodal Shipping
Similar to intermodal shipping, the primary advantage of multimodal shipping is transporting and tracking your goods under one carrier contract vs. multiple contracts. Regardless of the number of transportation modes, multimodal shipping holds one carrier responsible for the entire process, from pickup to delivery.
